We saw things we never will forget. I learned what nature can do to humans and what humans will do to each other when they get thirsty and hungry enough. I know that very few know about what we did there. Nonetheless, I am proud that I can call myself one of the Sea Angels and I am proud of President George H. W. Bush for sending us there to do the right thing. Over 100,000 died from that storm. Many, many more would have died without JTF Sea Angel.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5254619.post-25044995322263365082011-01-02T07:43:24.000+01:002011-01-02T07:43:24.000+01:00I WAS IN CHITTAGONG DURING THE CYCLONE AND HAVE WI...I WAS IN CHITTAGONG DURING THE CYCLONE AND HAVE WINTESS THE TREMENDOUS HUMANITARIAN EFFORT PUT FORTH BY THE US MILITARY. I was extremely proud of my Marines and their performance in the relief efforts. My Battery, by virtue of how we were back loaded on to the ships part of the task force had communication equipment and vehicles that could be readily accessible to be flown into the relief effort. My Stinger Gunners and Communicators set up the initial communications for the 5th MEB at the airfield and port. All of my Marines traveled with numerous units including the SEALs up the river and tributaries to carry food and supplies to the starving children and adults that survived the flooding. I was never so proud to see my Marines in action outside of the combat we had just had in Kuwait just a couple of months earlier. As Marines will do from time to time, all complaints and grousing about being diverted from heading home evaporated when we delivered our first helicopter supply of food to the starving survivors. One of my most vivid memories was sitting with the children to feed and comfort them. Our countries efforts saved hundreds of thousands if not millions with its quick response and action. It is regrettable that this is little known or remembered outside of the people of Bangladesh or the Marines, Sailors and Soldiers conducting the relief. I am always hopeful that our efforts are at least appreciated by Bangladesh and its people.

Mike Todd
Former Officer of Marines
Michael Toddnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5254619.post-30819835722188743822010-02-23T16:40:19.000+01:002010-02-23T16:40:19.000+01:00I was part of Operation Sea Angel.
