Freedom of speech in France

Through a controversial act France has banned citizen journalists from reporting violence. The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images. This act was supposed to aim at stopping "Happy slapping" incidents but this blanket ban do shorten the citizen's right to freedom of speech.

People fear that weak democracies, and authoritarian regimes across the world could be encouraged from this to replicate this type of bans.
